Infighting Is Not The Way

This week I want to talk about all the infighting I have been seeing across numerous social media platforms. This article has been a long time coming, as it was planted a long time ago in the back of my mind. While I try to avoid the infighting and bickering back and forth I can’t help but see it everywhere.
The Infighting Is Everywhere
As of lately, it seems like everyone one of us Norsemen and women have become privy to the infighting. For those of you that don’t know what infighting means it is “prolonged and often bitter dissension or rivalry among members of a group or organization” according to the Merriam Webster Dictionary. Perhaps its because we see it on the news everywhere, between politics, medical information, and so on. Either way infighting does seem to have made its way on the Norse front and that is not okay.
I even see it on all the social media platforms. What’s crazy is that when it comes right down to it we all share a common belief and idea of our religion. Grant it some of us have slightly different points of view and that is okay. We are different from one another and there are no two of us the same. Here is where it gets even more absurd if you will. At the end of the day, the opinions or ideas we have about being Norse and the history of our ancestors is never for anything but to protect and honor our culture, history, and religion. Yet… Here we are as the bickering continues.
For What?
What you want to call self-honor or pride of Norse. I’m calling you on it and I am saying Bull! Now sadly I too have been sucked into this ugliness of bickering and infighting. NO MORE, enough is enough. Do any of you truly think this is what any of the gods would consider being honorable? It literally reminds me of the movie “Fight Club”. And It’s crap!!!
There I no honor in this behavior, for anyone. There is no true pride to be had over infighting with someone. Especially one that at the core has the same morals, values, and beliefs as you.
Time To Make a change
How do we do this? For starters stop letting your pride and your ego get in the way of what really matters. The love we share for the gods, our mythology, and our culture. The reality is this. We may have different opinions, ideas, and thoughts about the various aspect of our religion. IT’S OKAY!
I know most of you have heard the saying “Agree to disagree.”. I feel like this is probably one of the best one-liner quotes of all time. This one emphasizes the fact that we are all different. It also points out that we won’t always see eye to eye on various matters or subjects. The point of the quote though is that just because we don’t agree on something it doesn’t mean that we need to act like a bunch of jackasses and treat each other with disrespect and hatred. Even if you don’t like someone to be honorable and have some integrity not only for yourself but for others as well.
I know I have said things that people don’t agree with. And I’m okay with that. Everyone is entitled to have their opinion and as such we will often hear of those opinions. But that’s just it. It’s their opinions, thoughts, and beliefs. Just because they have them and you don’t agree with them doesn’t mean you have to take on their ideology, no more than they have to take on yours. Here is the punch line you can still get along and work together. I do it every day as I am friends with many people with many different beliefs and religious backgrounds.
Taking action
I’m done with the going back forth with others about my beliefs, or even calling anyone out on social media about it. I will not get into debates that are unhealthy. I will, however, have an intelligent conversation about assorted things (Not including politics…EVER).
Hear hear!!
