Strive To Act as Our Ancestors
Today’s message is about being our best self. We should all strive every day to be our best selves. How do we accomplish this? First, you have to admit we are not perfect and that there is always room for growth.
Hey guys, Richard here with another episode of Odin’s Wisdom. Again gotta point out the disclaimer: this video is not intended for children. If you are under the age of 18, please turn it off. It’s not for you, the material in it is not for you. That being said let’s move on.
(Sigh) Originally I intended to talk to you guys about something different. Earlier this week I encountered some things, that I guess kind of forced the Gods to point me in a different direction. Um, and as a result, the message has changed for this week. One of the things I want to talk about, most of you know the story of Loki was he literally stalked and spied on Freya while she was with sun dwarf dual crafters and metal workers, um and ultimately she slept with them to get a piece of jewelry.
Now if you’ve never heard of this story look it up. I don’t recall the exact title of it. Um, but the whole point in the story is or was that Loki stalked after her, found out that she did something she shouldn’t have done or that was morally incorrect or whatever which is kind of ironic in the fact that Loki of all people was trying to throw someone under the bus, but that being what it is, we all know Loki to be the trickster.
So it goes on in this story to talk about, um, how he goes running back to Odin to “snitch” on Freya and at Odin’s request, eventually snuck into Freya’s room within the evening and removed the necklace from Freyas neck and returned it to the dwarves. Um, other than that I don’t recall ’cause it’s been a really long time since I’ve seen this story, on exactly what took place.
The whole point in me telling you the story about that though is this. Loki committed. He was absolutely committed to winning the favor of Odin and it didn’t matter what the cost was, ok. Loki always sought Odin’s approval. He was willing to do whatever it was to get the job done. If you look at some of the historical figures in Norse Paganism whether it’s Rollo Lothbrok, or Ivar Lothbrok, or Erik the Red or whoever. Some of these figures, um and looking in their sagas even references that have been to make in some of the years or some of them throughout the years, um you can see that some of these people possessed very similar abilities and or characteristics would be a better term of what it is that Loki exhibited by try to win Odin’s favor.
And those characteristics include things like integrity, ok, Integrity means by definition taking responsibility for your actions. Owning that shit. I mean you own it. If you hit somebody in the face with a baseball bat, OWN THAT SHIT! You’re gonna go to jail anyway but own it. It’s yours, you did it, own it! Have some freaken integrity.
Then there’s an honor. No Loki was certainly not a man of honor per say. With the exception of the fact, that when he committed to do something, that was it, and you can count on it being done. Doesn’t matter what it was he was doing, ok. Take for example the birth of Frenyar, ok, and how that came to be. Most of you know the story and for those of you that don’t, I highly, highly recommend you learn the story. You can find it in the pros edda and I believe in referenced in whatever saga. My pronunciation sucks but hopefully you can figure it out from that, um, if not ask in the group chat, on Facebook, or even ask by an email to one of the admins. We will get you the exact saga that’s referenced in, ok.
The whole point is though that, we as a people, a Norse people, were very, very proud and very very dedicated to whatever it was that we were doing, ok. And we need to remember those qualities, those characteristics not even just as a Norse people but as a people in general. You know you hear stories in the news of this guy did this and got away with it for a while. And then this guy got caught and this guy did this or that girl did that. Nobody has those characteristics and those that do are far in between. And for those that know me the best they all know that if I tell you I’m going to do something, you can count on it being done, period, and it doesn’t matter what the cost, ok. And it shouldn’t matter to any of you what the cost is. If you tell someone you are going to do something, do it. Does not matter the cost, sure it gets delayed a little bit, sometimes those things happen because of circumstances outside of our control, but they do happen, but it doesn’t change the fact that you need to hold yourself to a higher standard than the rest of the people out there.
I hold my self to an exceptionally high standard case and point, you’ve seen 3 episodes, including this one, of Odin’s Wisdom, ok. Not one of them has been filmed in the same place. Some of it because of convenience or inconvenience, as some of you, would say but I committed to you guys. To bring these episodes to you, week, after week, after week, after week, after week, after week and their not gonna stop. Hell, you might find one time that I might actually be going to be recording in a car or one time I’ll be recording in a truck stop bathroom, I don’t know. It just depends on where the Gods tell me I need to be and what it is I need to do. And I do feel that the Gods do direct me in the path that’s going to suit you guys best. Which is why the subject changed for this week.
Now I’m not gonna tell you what the original subject was going to be because it’s irrelevant, it is not what the Gods intended. That’s why I think the situations that occurred to me this week, um, was so that the Gods could say, “Get these fuckers straight.” So and I hope I’m right it’s the feeling I have. No, I’m not fucking nuts. No, the Gods don’t directly talk to me like, ” Hey fool, you better do this. It doesn’t happen. It’s a sense of feeling and a feeling of being compelled is what I feel and that’s why I bring these videos to you guys because I feel that I’m compelled to do so, no they are not high quality, no they don’t have fancy credits at the beginning. No, no fancy credits or music at the end. They’re just real. Much like myself. I come to you real. I don’t write a script for these.
I believe that when I have a message to give you, it’s given to me from the Gods, period. Do I think I’m some sort of disciple? No. I’m nowhere near good enough to be a disciple. Especially for a man of Odin’s quality. But as a Norse people, we were proud and part of our pride enabled us to maintain characteristics like honor, integrity, respect, loyalty. You don’t see a lot of loyalty these days. And I do believe that realism is a big quality and characteristic that a lot of people are lacking these days. And I’m hoping that this video will enlighten some of you and will encourage you to strive to be better.
Every day is a battle for us, in one way or another. It’s always some sort of a battle. I mean example, I was laid off 4 months ago, and it has been a constant battle trying to find a job, trying to support my family, who is on the other side recording this right now. (Clears throat) And even with all of that, somehow I’ve managed to provide. I don’t know-how, it’s not for me to question. Gods dictate what it is we do and don’t do. The Gods dictate how we survive, the challenges they want us to face. And I’m nobody to question their motives or question why and yeah believe there are times much like you that are like, “What the fuck? I didn’t do anything.” But believe me, I’ve cussed at the Gods on more than one occasion, and at the end of the day, I begged for forgiveness because it was disrespectful. We can’t be perfect. None of us are. None us ever will be but we can certainly strive for it and be our very best. And having characteristics like loyalty, respect, honor, integrity, and realism are all measures that will help you be the best person you can be.
It’s often misconstrued that Vikings and heathens were these ugly disrespectful, unloyal, uncaring, freaken heathens for lack of a better term, and while yes they did do their share of plundering and pledging unfortunately and in some cases rape, um. But they did so with those qualities. Does it make it ok? Absolutely not, but it was also different times. Who am I to judge. It’s not a time that I was around or you to judge. As a result of this misconstrue of what true Viking or a true heathen is we often get the reputation of being devil worshippers, or Satanists or whatever. We’re better than that. We’re all better than that. And by displaying characteristics like loyalty, honor, integrity, and respect we’re going to show the world that there is more to us then meets the eye. And no it’s not about showing off or trying to give a different impression, it’s about you being the best person you can be.
If you ask my significant other, at any point in time in our relationship I have never once, ever raised my voice or cursed her, or belittled her, in any way shape or form, no matter how mad she got me. I mean that’s just not who I am. Now I do have a breaking point, sure, but not when it comes to that stuff. Yelling, screaming doesn’t do any good. And people start not listening to you or hearing from you when you do those things. So if you exhibit the traits of loyalty, honor, respect, and integrity, those traits in themselves make you a better person and it’ll make those around you a better person. We become the people that we surround ourselves with.
That said guys, that’s all I have for you guys for you this week. I do love you with every fiber in my body. There’s nothing I won’t do for you.
